The Bakersfield City School District’s Gifted and Talented Education philosophy emphasizes that the student is capable of excelling in an environment that is accepting, stimulating, exciting, challenging, and flexible.  Maximizing each child’s potential, the program stimulates creative and critical thinking.  Students are identified as GATE using a multi-dimensional tool, which provides for diversity.  All students recognized as gifted in the Bakersfield City School District receive a differentiated curriculum and necessary support services, such as counseling and mentoring, regardless of race, gender, or socio-economic factors.  Parents are vital in planning and evaluating the gifted program the Bakersfield City School District offers.  Professional development for teachers, counselors, administrators, and parents is seen as a cornerstone in developing a program that encompasses effective curriculum development and instructional strategies to meet the varying intellectual and social/emotional needs of gifted students.   Below are resources that will be of interest to parents of GATE students.
